As noted today by Prof William Jacobson at
Le.gal In.sur.rec.tion, the brave, principled, and irrepressible Joe Lieberman has already thrown a tanker-truck of cold water on the PelosiCare party... vowing to join the GOP caucus in the Senate in fillibustering any HC reform bill with a "public option".
Sen. Lieberman clearly sees the statist Trojan horse in this legislation, as the public option is simply a slow-motion bankrupting and nationalization of the American HC insurance industry.
Consequently some "progressive" kooks -knowing a threat to Hope-n-Change when they see one- proceeded to physically occupy his office for 40 mins last week, until the police came and hauled the trash away- this in addition to other threats Lieberman has already received since stating his opposition to this statist power-n-tax grab.
"We're trying to do too much at once," he stated... “To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now."
And all this puts Obama-Pelosi-Reid in a terrible bind... as noted by Dr Jacobsson:

As many left-wing bloggers are screaming, the Stupak Amendment guts Roe v. Wade in reality (but not in law) by creating a subclass of health insurance coverage which will cost more and be less available than alternatives without abortion coverage.
So Harry Reid needs to drop the public option to get a bill through the Senate. Nancy Pelosi needs to drop abortion coverage even for most private plans, to get a bill through the House.
The end result: If a bill is to pass both houses of Congress, it will have no public option and no abortion coverage. So join the club, libs... right along with all the rest who didn't get the Change they signed-up for.
What this country really needs is for the Senate to pull-the-plug on this creaking Rube Goldberg contraption and start fresh, with real tort reform and interstate HC insurance competition... like, say, after the Dems are bounced to the curb en masse next fall.
Dan at Riehl World View says he can't recall any bill that's struggled this much in the House ever making it through the Senate -here-

Then check-out this clip on Brietbart's Big Government... where Eline van den Broek of the Netherlands only needs four minutes to explain why the European socialized HC system that Obama so emulates is a colossal mistake -here-

No worry. It will be "reconciled" into something that includes abortions, sex changes, but not CPAP machines or cardiac stents.
No need now for messy votes and stuff.
How can Lieberman protect us from Reconciliation? I am confused.
I totally agree with Larry Sheldon. What a pitty and shame to have to watch this great nation go to hell because of ignorant liberial democrat politicians. The rich get richer and the poor and struggling honest Americans suffer. I am crippled with parkinsons disease and other health issues, my wife and i are on a fixed income and as a Vietnam Era Veteran (Honorable) I use the Veterans Hospital and V.A. Doctors. I wonder how much longer I will have the use of it, as the liberial politicians have to keep takeing care of the rich who helped them with$ to get them there. How meany dead people do you think voted in the last election? How meany broke the law and voted more than one time? One of the organizations to help them is Acorn. They broke the law, but as usual liberial democrates are above the law it seems. Barack Hussein Obama is NOT playing with a full deck, look at the people he deals with. As for me, i plan to suport and vote for Mike Huckabee, God please let him run again. He plays with a full deck and he is a GOOD Christian. He was a great govener of Arkansas for ten years and we never herd bad things about him, ever. He is a man of good morals. Barack Hussein Obama scares me. There is just something about tat isn't right. This country is in bad need of good leadership.

IMO that won't get them what they want... they need the 60 votes.
Reconciliation to me is an empty threat from Reid... he knows it only applies to budget matters, and with many restrictions- he's trying get them to lay down him due to a sense of inevitability.
Senate Finance Committe member/Budget Chairman Kent Conrad (a Democrat) said the bill would be so pared down, "you'd be left with Swiss cheese."
Reconciliation rules require that a bill be scored as deficit-reducing over six years... and that any substantive policy change in it also have a fiscal purpose.
The result is that you'd be left with a dramatically reduced package that would fall far-short of comprehensive health reform.
"The problems are two-fold," he said. "Number one, everything has to be deficit-neutral - and actually have to produce $1billion in deficit reduction over six years.
So, Conrad said, "health reform needs to be passed on a 60-vote basis, and that means it needs to be bipartisan."
And that rules out any "public option" for sure... among other things.
And I'm not so sure they even have 50 votes by the time this hits the floor- wait til we see what they've been hiding in it.
I hope that you are right about this, I just worry about all of the arm twisting and back room deals. I do think that Lieberman will hold firm but I just don't know about the others. Snowe and Collins come to mind.

Let me look back through recent actions and see if that really matters or not.....
Have you noticed how hard you have to dig to find out that many of the arrests last Thursday were on the left? CNN's coverage just said people were arrested. They just lumped everybody together.
We have to keep working to get this so water-downed it won't affect much. They are determined to pass something.
Speaking of buried reports--am I misremembering that the "reconciliation" ploy was used to attach TARP top some budget bill that had already been passed?
I'll keep an ey open for that, too.
I am of the opinion that ALL of the people arrested were leftists. But it would take me a while to find an authoritative report reflecting that.
If I find it again, I'll try to remember to mention it here.
