Guatemala Volcano Eruption

Rocks exploding from a volatile Guatemala volcano eruption killed a television reporter in the capital, and sadly, three children are missing.
The Pacaya volcano started erupting lava and rocks on Thursday afternoon, blanketing Guatemala City with ash and forcing the closure of the international airport. Guatemala President  Alvaro Colom declared a "state of calamity."
Guatemala news television reporter Anibal Archila was hit by a shower of rocks when he got too close to the volcano, about 15 miles (25 kilometers) south of Guatemala City, said David de Leon, a spokesman for the national disaster committee.
He said three children between the ages of seven and 12 were missing in the Guatemala volcano eruption.
At least 1,600 people from villages closest to the Guatemala volcano have been evacuated to shelters.
Two to three inches (Five to 7.5 centimeters) of ash accumulated on streets in some southern parts of the city, and officials imposed limits on trucks and motorcycles to help speed up traffic slowed by the ash.

John Bolton: Obama Administration has been "Asleep", Now "Desperate" on Iran

...striking ill-advised, frantic bargains at the UN Security Council just to produce another toothless UN resolution... while traditional US allies like Turkey and Brazil -smelling current US weakness- see no price to pay in siding with the Iranian thugocracy now... I thought Lula was Obama's socialist buddy down there... what happened to that fairy tale?

And Bolton sees the UN's touted new sanctions as saddled with a major loophole, as sure to be ineffective as the previous six Security Council resolutions Iran has been ignoring for years...

Iceland Volcano May 26: German Airport Closures, UK Airport Closures

Update on Iceland Volcano May 26

The volcano eruption in Iceland has lessened much since last midweek, and now emits primarily steam... the Icelandic Met Office offers this update:

Measurements with a heat camera made from an aircraft gave just under 100°C as the highest temperatures at the crater. The crater could not be observed, due to steam rising from it. No signs of extrusion of magma could be seen. Volcanic tremor is still decreasing and is approaching the level it had before the eruption.
Today, the eruption seems to be dormant. There is still a considerable amount of steam coming from the crater, but no ash can be seen in it. Details in a status report issued collectively by the Icelandic Meteorological Office and the Institute of Earth Sciences...
