DETAILS: Osama Bin Laden 'Shot in the Face' by US Navy SEALS, Family Arrested, Compound Still Burning (video)

First reported to have been popped by the CIA, it's coming out now that it was a special, crack team of Navy SEALS that took to fight to the enemy... right in the walled, heavily defended $1M compound -not in the wild frontier tribal areas as widely suspected- but at the end of a dirt road in an affluent suburb of Islamabad (Abbottabad)... sheltered amongst his former buddies in a neighborhood of  Pakistani military retirees (!)

Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday at around 1 AM local time.

How did they manage to polish the scum off?

Security at the compound was “extraordinary,” an official said, with 12- to 18-foot walls topped by barbed wire. Yet the $1 million compound had no phone or Internet service. “Our best assessment was that bin Laden was living there with several family members, including his youngest wife,” the official said.

Asked what bin Laden did once the U.S. team landed, an official would say only: “He did resist the assault force.”

Officials said three other men were killed in the raid—one who is believed to be bin Laden’s adult son, and two couriers. One woman was killed when she was used as a shield by one of the combatants, they said. The U.S. team lost a helicopter due to mechanical failure.

And how did they find him?

The US had been monitoring the compound in Abbottabad for months after receiving a tip in August that Bin Laden might be seeking shelter there. He had long been said to be in the mountainous region along the Afghanistan, Pakistan border, hiding in a cave as the U.S. sought to kill him with drone strikes from above.

Instead, he was in a house eight times larger than its neighbors, with a seven-foot wall and valued at $1 million. The house had no phone of television and the residents burned their trash. The house had high windows and few points of access, and U.S. officials concluded it had been built to hide someone.

According to U.S. officials, two U.S. helicopters swept into the compound at 1:30 and 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Twenty to 25 U.S. Navy Seals under the command of the Joint Special Operations Command in cooperation with the CIA stormed the compound and engaged Bin Laden and his men in a firefight, killed Bin Laden and all those with him.

Other details:

After taking him out, the SEAL squad took him out-to-sea... a good idea, we don't need any trace left of this one left around.

The CIA was actually watching the compound for two years, and they were astounded he built in right in the same town as the Pakistani military academy and a major base- bold, and apparently protected by the ISI.  But US military interogation targets had revealed a trusted Bin Laden courier who was tracked to the compound in 2009.

Planning for the raid was of course kept secret from most on our side, all allies, and even the Pakastanis didn't know what was happening until it was all said and done.

Two of Bin Laden's wives -as well as six of his devil-spawn children- are in US Military custody, captured in a mountainous region a bit north of the now-burning Bin Laden mansion...

Nice job, heroes- tho we may never know your names

And congratulations to President George W Bush...
mission accomplished, sir

Good riddance to this man. I am very grateful to our men and women in the military. And now Osama goes to meet his creator and account for his actions.

Thank god for our wonderful service men! Kudos must be given to Patreaus who stuck his head on the block in while going after things in Pakistan, something the administration was loathe to do as the Pakistanis didn't like it.

All in all a good day! however, normally when one cuts the head off a snake, the body dies. In this case, citing the centuries of radical hatred, etc. that comes from these people, one must still assume the body is whole. The deep rooted hate for anything other than their own views I'm afraid will keep these folks going on their merry way. As such, we must not ease up on the pressure! We go after these radicals until they fold up their tents!

Why are we giving Bush credit for anything? He let Osama run loose for his whole term.

If it were up to Obama, we never would have ever even gone to Afghanistan/Pakistan to fight the Taliban- you know it and I know it, "Anon"

RR, the picture on the link... The moment it was announced last night on Fox. I did a search for a picture of Bin Laden and found that same pictures from a website that was posted back in Dec 2010.
Was going to use it on my post, however it was dated.

But this is excellent news about OBL.

It was a Bush set foreign policy and goal. Obama didn't wavier from it much. (We are still in Afghanistan, Iraq, Gitmo is still open and Gitmo detainee's will be tried by military tribunal)
It's not a political victory... It's an American victory, Anon.
