Gipper's Greatest Hits: Reagan Crushes the Air Traffic Controllers' Union Like an Insect

"We cannot compare labor-management relations
in the private sector with government..."

In August 1981, President Ronald Reagan faced down an audacious countrywide air traffic controllers strike that threatened to paralyze the nation's transportation system.

But the walkout violated a regulation prohibiting government unions from striking, so declaring the situation a federal emergency -per 1947 Taft Hartley Act- the President held a press conference in the White House Rose Garden to issue an ultimatum...

Rock-n-Roll Oldies: Three Dog Night- 1970

"That ain't the way to have fun, son..."

Three Dog Night is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA. Best known for the songs they created from 1968 to 1975, as of 2010 the group is still actually recording and making live appearances.

Legend has it that vocalist Danny Hutton's then-girlfriend came up with the band's name in 1968 after reading a magazine article about Australian aboriginals and how they -on cold nights- had a custom of sleeping in a hole in the ground whilst embracing a dingo -a native species of wild dog- as a personal heater. On colder nights they would sleep with two dogs and if the night was freezing, it was a "three dog night"...

MONSTER 8.9 Quake Rocks Northeastern Japan, Tsunami Swamps Port (video)

Tsunami causes major damage after
earthquake strikes just-off the NE coast...

Screen cap via Al Jazeera

massive 8.9 magnitude quake has hit northeast Japan, subsequently bringing a 4m tsunami to long parts of the country's coastline. NHK television reported many injuries and showed pictures of major tsunami damage in the north, with cars, trucks, houses being swept away in Onahama city.

The earthquake rated a absolute maximum value of "7" on the Japanese scale. A 10m tsunami hit Sendai airport in the north-east. Military airplanes were flying over the worst-affected areas to assess the need for rescue efforts and the PM called an emergency cabinet meeting.

The devastating quake shook buildings in the capital for several minutes and sent people out onto the streets. Japan's NHK television showed black smoke billowing from a building in Odaiba, a suburb of Tokyo.

The quake that struck at 2:46pm was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks, including a 7.4-magnitude one about 30 minutes later. Tremors were felt as far away as in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

This video is unreal...

How Gaddafi Lost the Rebellion... but is Winning the War

"War looks over but for the mass executions
and the climb-down by EU leadership..."

As has become typical, Barack Obama's endorsement was the kiss of death... this time for Libyan rebels most thought would  be overrunning Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli by now.

Seems serial ineptitude emanating from both US and EU 'leadership' quickly extinguished any hope the opposition initially held of conquering this vile regime: with zero effective aid to the rebels from Obama and the lilly-livered Europeans, what was "Gaddafi must step-down" supposed to mean without consequences to back it up...? That same Gaddafi then predictably told them to shove it.

Now the clueless US administration -via John Kerry- is still standing around making hawkish noises about a NFZ that will never happen while gas prices go ballistic and Gaddafi moves to roll-up what's left of the insurgency... that's right,
Gaddafi is winning.

US Taxpayer-Funded Foreign Aid Received by 150/192 Countries in the World!

That's us dishing-out an allowance to
over 78% of the nations in existence...

Thanks US taxpayers- but most of them still hate you anyway.

And if you feel like a chump- you should: we'll be paying for this dubious investement (+interest) ad infinitum: America doesn't have any money to be giving-away in the first place, all discretionary federal spending is in-effect borrowed these days...

ANYbody but Obama... Please!

Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit):
"I would vote for a syphilitic camel over Barack Obama in 2012, so therefore I would even vote for Huckabee or Gingrich.

But I might try to talk the camel into running one more time..."

Ouch- doesn't say much for those two, does it. But at the same time I was just yesterday thinking along those very same lines... anybody but Obama:
