Obama Secretly Schemed with Egyptian Opposition for "Regime Change" for Years!

More than just "Obama's Fault"... he helped plan it

Many have doubted that Barack Obama was on top of the situation in Egypt as he asserts... myself included.  And I was wrong, he was RIGHT on top of it- alas, on the side of the revolutionaries! Fact is, he's been playing his typical double-game, hedging his bets like the duplicitous scoundrel that he is-

Wikileaks cables regarding Obama Administration policy in Egypt betray the fact that they've been plotting with opposition leaders to overthrow Hosni Mubarak for years... this despite the fact that the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood dominates the opposition movement in Egypt, and is likely to now come to power...

The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.
On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.
He has already been arrested by Egyptian security in connection with the demonstrations...
[WikiLeaks document/more at The Telegraph]
The US government has previously been a supporter of Mr Mubarak’s regime. But the leaked documents show the extent to which America was offering support to pro-democracy activists in Egypt while publicly praising Mr Mubarak as an important ally in the Middle East.
In a secret diplomatic dispatch, sent on December 30 2008, Margaret Scobey, the US Ambassador to Cairo, recorded that opposition groups had allegedly drawn up secret plans for “regime change” to take place before elections, scheduled for September this year.
The memo, which Ambassador Scobey sent to the US Secretary of State in Washington DC, was marked “confidential” and headed: “April 6 activist on his US visit and regime change in Egypt.”
It said the activist claimed “several opposition forces” had “agreed to support an unwritten plan for a transition to a parliamentary democracy, involving a weakened presidency and an empowered prime minister and parliament, before the scheduled 2011 presidential elections”. The embassy’s source said the plan was “so sensitive it cannot be written down”.

This is no Polish Solidarity movement, people... and recent developments in Cairo are an unmitigated disaster for the United States of America- mark my words. Monday, expect oil prices to soar and the Dow will be in the toilet... and just the simple fact that the Obama Administration is behind it is reason enough to question the wisdom employed here.

Today I see many rooting for the wrong side… so do be sure to come by my blog and admit it when the Islamists take over.
Looks like the many were right to blame Obama for this, as for some reason Americans seem hesitant to.  Now that we know he planned and supported it, they ought to take a serious look at why they're making excuses for this clueless strategist and diplomatic klutz Obama- because they were oh-so-very wrong.

Great scoop, RR. This does not surprise me in the least.
Once again, o is in the center of scummy goings on. Dear Lord, when will the world be delivered from the duplicities of this demon? Yuck.

Just wait, the libs will blame this on Bush

Yeah- well, they can try... but that dog won't hunt

Very interesting RR. You did your homework on this one. Great post. Maybe Obama employed community activist groups like ACORN to the region to pitch in.

Great find, RR! This dirty rotten scoundrel is sickening the way he sides with terrorists or terrorist sympathizers. This man in the WH might as well be the enemy. This ticks me off to no end. Obama needs to be impeached.

Obama wasn't president in Dec of 08. Wouldn't it have to been the Bush administration that did this?

Reaganite Republican said...

Well, the Bush Administration was informed in their last month in office, after the election of Obama- insignificant imo

Obviously two years+ management of the situation is what acutally matters, and of course the President Elect was surely briefed... and clearly acquiesced to the plans of the opposition, which is dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood

Bush's input is meaningless... he wanted to deal with Iran in '08 but ran out of political capital long before... that obviously had no bearing on the subsequent administration either, did it-

The reason I am saying that is that it is no secret that Bush's plan had been to spread democracy across the middle east; ala the domino effect of Iraq.
The main problem with part of the world is that the options generally suck. The current regime's are awful and keep their people opressed, but the alternatives are worse. As long as their is opression radicalism can sprout. But how do force democracy on a nation that does not seem all that interested in having it? They will go through all of this of to remove the government and end up oppressed in a different way. I don't see any simple or easy answers.

We are in agreement on that, JCG- the options do suck lol

But diplomacy is about choices, no matter how unsavory I far prefer Mubarak to a roll of the dice. And Obama has been scheming for this for two years- and that's horrifying to me

EGYPT: Be careful what you wish for...

John Bolton, per usual, has it right...

Look, I'm for freedom. Mubarak's regime has been an enemy of Israel in all international organizations, and the 1979 peace treaty was a disaster. Obama may have wanted Mubarak out, but it's a stretch to argue he actually aided the Islamists. What we're rooting for is freedom. The line of attack is against those indeed working to install the Muslim Brotherhood, like the ANSWER cohorts and the Gaza flotilla crowd. Show me the documents saying Obama funded MB and I'm with you, otherwise take after the Soros-backed leftists who are attacking the Bush freedom agenda, of which Obama had explicity renounced.

Interestingly, the Mossad still expect Mubarak to survive...

"At the moment, assessments in Israeli intelligence circles are that Mubarak will survive. The demonstrations throughout Egypt, while large and growing, do not have an organized leadership behind them, and fearing a violent crackdown, the Muslim Brotherhood is staying underground."

We for the most part are fellow travelers re. the Freedom Agenda, Dr Douglas- but I have to say US strategic interests always come first... and the Suez canal cannot be risked. Israel might even pre-emptively attack an MB-run Egypt to avoid a two front war.

In Iraq, my justification was such strategic interests... Iraqi democracy was just icing on the cake for me.

And Obama didn't fund them according to the cable, but he sure acquiesced and encouraged Mubarak's overthrow- very reckless brinkmanship, and he doesn't know what he's doing anyway.

I have to say I feel there is little desire for Jeffersonian democracy in Egypt... imo just a gift wrap for the west, with a turd inside, basically

Only likely outcome I can stomach is Army in charge with new dictator... that can keep the Muslim Brotherhood out.
