Good for the Pontiff. Beer has saved the lives of millions over the years - especially during the Middle Ages. There is nothing in scripture that denounces it - only the abuse of it.

Once upon a time I got off of a flight from the US to Munich, and was taken directly to the Hofbrau Haus for Oktoberfest. It was a nightmare that night. Jet lag and a person who can't stand beer are not a good mix. I went back several other years though and loved it.

Pretzels? Sehr gut!

Hey, beer was made by monks the world over to pay the bills, that's how "Bohemia" beer in Mexico came about, Czech monks down there in the late 1800s

In northern Europe a number of traditional beers where started by religious orders as a way of financing the church
