Google Chrome Web-Based OS to Kill the Desktop?

Google Chrome OS, Google’s new open-source, web-based operating system has been revealed in a special event at Google headquarters in Mountain View, California.

It’s mission? To kill the desktop...

While there's been some releases/pictures of what to expect the Google Chrome OS interface, this is the first time the public's had a real look at just what they've been up-to with their new world-conquering toy... and it looks to be disruptive, more than just a shot-across-the-bow for MicroSoft.

The main thing is that it’s entirely web-based, storing your apps in the cloud. It’s the first time a browser has entirely ditched the traditional desktop.

All applications in Google Chrome OS are web apps meaning there’s no need to install, manage and update programs... and it also means that Chrome OS should quickly have a wide-range of applications available. A lot of special attention's been applied to security measures, and they claim it to be far more secure than a PC-based OS like, er, Windows for instance...
