Chart Your Own Political Compass!

The Reaganite Republican: Left/Right 5.38  Lib/Auth'n 1.13
Great for self-awareness, from Political Compass:

There's abundant evidence for the need of it. The old one-dimensional categories of 'right' and 'left', established for the seating arrangement of the French National Assembly of 1789, are overly simplistic for today's complex political landscape.

For example, who are the 'conservatives' in today's Russia? Are they the unreconstructed Stalinists, or the reformers who have adopted the right-wing views of conservatives like Margaret Thatcher?

On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook.

That's about as much as we should tell you for now. After you've responded to the following propositions during the next 3-5 minutes, all will be explained. In each instance, you're asked to choose the response that best describes your feeling: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree or Strongly Agree. At the end of the test, you'll be given the compass, with your own special position on it...
Right-click -here- to open the test in a new tab and map your Bible-clinging, gun-slinging reactionary views... you misguided anti-progressive, you.

I love clinging to my Bible and promoting gun-slinging. I can't wait to take the test. Thanks for posting.

Me too, Teresa- as well you know!

Enjoy- I thought the questions were excellent

Same horizontal line [slightly lower] as you but two boxes to the Right:
Economic Left/Right: 7.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.56

Funny, in every other country outside of the Anglosphere, I would be a Monarchist.

A monarchist- always with the retro themes, Robert

lol

Hmmm. Right on the line of auth/lib and not as far right as I thought I'd be. Maybe I should kill some terrorists and buy some stocks or something! :)

Tests like this are hard for me as I am VERY social-con on a personal level but more "shut up and leave us alone" on what I think government's role is on social issues.

Don't be so hard on yourself innominatus... that's Right enough, ha

MY weak spots are allowing some gov't funded art projects, conditional tariffs, and an affection for sophisticated public transport... other than that I'm as anti-progressive as they come!

I'll be back tomorrow. Too late to get into this tonight. See you in the morning. Can't wait.

The most disturbing thing for me is that dubya was to the right of me. (shudders)

I am curious where all my allies fall, Maggie... I can't wait either!

And Matt, W spent to much and set up a couple too many agencies... outside of maybe immigration, I think he's pretty darn conservative... especially social issues.

And a free-trader, too- maybe he got you there? Geo Bush would be to the Right of Pat Buchanan on THAT one...

I am L/R 6.00 SocLib/Auth 1.64. I would have echoed Matt's response but RR your explanation makes total sense.

I want art in our schools. After the artist decides to make it a business, then I want it treated like a business. I have no public transportation (other than the usual buses) in my area. I prefer not to pay for New York's, but I will say I enjoy it when I'm there - but I also pay it through the hotel and tourism taxes.

I would have been honored to be beside Margaret Thatcher:-(

Well, interesting... anyhoo, IMO you can never have enough self-awareness!

And there are always peculiarities to any test- maybe we'll all take it again next time they have a new crop of questions or try somebody's else's version of this

Here is another test on How PROGRESSIVE you are.

I scored 181/400 on this test to be solidly conservative.

On the compass test I always score.....two clicks to the left and one click to the libertarian side.

RR, don't know if your last comment was to me, but I thought the questions were exactly the right questions to ask. I wasn't sure of "eye for an eye tooth for a tooth," since that can "depend," but it doesn't "depend" when viewed from a National criminal culpability. I had very few questions that I had to think about. Don't know if that's good or bad, but to me it's an indication that the poll isn't trying to trick you, and the questions are valid.

Reaganite Republican said...

Yeah it was to you Maggie, and although mine came right were I thought it would, a few people expressed surprise, so that's why I was thinking maybe the questions just didn't hit them right

Maggie Thornton said...

Thanks RR for the reply. Now I'll get hubby here to take it.
