Stephen Hawking: Avoid Alien Contact!

If aliens do exist -and some feel the discovery of hundreds of planets since 1995 make that entirely more likely- British physicist Stephen Hawking says we shouldn’t be too enthused about their arrival on our planet...

“We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet,’’ the scientist says in his new Discovery Channel series Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking. “If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans.’’

Stephen Hawking then makes a logical case in this series -which began last night- that any being motivated to transverse the galaxy could likely have been forced to by necessity, and will be looking for planets to pillage and colonize... not for new friends.  And if they're brighter than us -which they'd have to be to get here in the first place- we could be in a lot of trouble once they arrive...

Looks like Mars Attacks was not that far-off after all!
