The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)- 1979

The Electric Light Orchestra, often abbreviated ELO, were an extremely successful  Birmingham-based English Rock music group.  Formed by members of UK band The Move in 1970, ELO prospered and evolved through the decade, releasing 12 studio albums and more than four dozen singles in total under the leadership of musical genius Jeff Lynne.

The band developed a unique modern rock/pop sound utilizing classical instruments, arrangements, and even lyrical themes. By the mid-1970s, they had become one of the biggest selling bands in the world, an international commercial powerhouse.

From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated 27 Top 40 hit singles in both the UK and the US. The group also holds the record for having the most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits of any band in US chart history without ever having #1 single. In all, The Electric Light Orchestra have sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

From the 1974 album -Eldorado, A Symphony- came the timeless single "Can't Get It Out of My Head" the first US Top 10 hit as the album went on to gold record status. By now ELO had become a star attraction on the US stadium and arena circuit, as well as regularly appearing on The Midnight Special... more than any other band with four bookings.

The 1975 album Face the Music brought the singles "Evil Woman" and "Strange Magic".

Despite the recognition and success they enjoyed in the states they were still largely ignored in the UK until their sixth album, A New World Record, made the top ten there in 1976. It contained the hit singles "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Rockaria!" and "Do Ya".

After more touring the band released a multi-platinum selling album, the double-LP Out of the Blue, in 1977. The work featured the singles "Turn to Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", and "Wild West Hero", each becoming a hit in the UK as well as US.

The band then set out on a nine-month, 92-date world tour, with an enormous set and a high-tech and high-budget space ship themed stage with fog machines and a pioneering laser display. In the US the concerts were billed as The Big Night and were their largest to date, with 80,000 people seeing them at Cleveland Stadium. The Big Night went on to become the highest-grossing live concert tour in music history up to that point (1978).

In 1979, the multi-platinum album Discovery (or "Disco...? Very!" as some wags saw it) was released. Although the most commercially succesful single from the album (and ELO's biggest ever) was the rock song "Don't Bring Me Down", the album was widely noted for its disco influence. Discovery also produced the hits "Shine a Little Love", "Last Train to London", "Confusion" (below).

Jeff Lynne wrote the soundtrack for the film Xanadu and three more studio efforts as the band disintegrated slowly... but did come up with the hit single, "Rock and Roll is King" in 1983. Jeff Lynne went on later to join the Travelling Wilburys along with fellow greats Bob Dylan, Ray Orbison, George Harrison, and Tom Petty. He did basically a solo album under the ELO name in 2001 (Zoom), then went into the production side of the business.

I myself had the good fortune to catch the final tour of the 2009 incarnation of ELO -The Orchestra: sadly, with the passing of bassist/vocalist Kelly Groucutt the next month, it was perhaps the last chance to see an authentic ELO show.  Impressive that they could produce such a gig without headman Jeff Lynne, with whom they've parted ways... alas with the band members mostly in their 60s, it was all an octave or two lower.  Even Mick Kaminski -and his famous blue violin- played the tour...

America's Spiteful, Anti-Semitic, Market-Riggng, Commu-Nazi-Athiest "New God" Now Launching US Prisoners' Rights Campaign

Hey Boehner and McConnell... you got the cojones to
bring this character in for a few questions...?

In the wake of the ever-outgoing Charles Manson getting his cell-phone taken away by ruthless class-oppressors at Corcoran State Prison, hardcore lib kooks like Van Jones, Noam Chomsky, and Professor Michelle Alexander have signed a "statement of solidarity" with striking Georgia inmates as they ramp-up a racially-charged "prisoners' rights" offensive in this country... and with a little help from their friends:

...“mass incarceration is the new Jim Crow,” ... “Like the old Jim Crow, this system serves to perpetuate institutionalized racism, economic inequality, and political disenfranchisement.”

In other words, the criminals who prey on society are now the victims.

This Marxist clap-trap actually takes the form of a book, The New Jim Crow, by the aforementioned Michelle Alexander, a former ACLU official who won a 2005 “Soros Justice Fellowship,”...

Soros has provided the bulk of the money behind a well-organized “criminals lobby” in the U.S. that is working to make “prisoners’ rights” into the next big cause of the liberal-left.
...
The leading name on the “Statement of Solidarity” with the prisoners in Georgia is a controversial organization, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), which usually defends accused Islamic terrorists. It is an off-shoot of the National Lawyers Guild, which was once officially designated a communist front and still remains the American affiliate of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers, the old Soviet front.

To show their solidarity with the Marxist terror networks that bombed police stations and killed police officers in the 1970s and 1980s, the CCR’s board and staff recently took out a full-page ad in a “commemorative solidarity booklet” distributed at a memorial service for the dead Communist terrorist Marilyn Buck. It described her as a “fierce warrior, human rights defender and fighter for justice.”

A member of the Weather Underground and the Black Liberation Army, which carried out a robbery of a Brinks truck in 1981 that killed two policemen and a security guard, Buck had been serving a prison term in California for her involvement in a long list of terrorist crimes. These included the Brinks heist and helping convicted killer Joanne Chesimard escape from prison. Chesimard fled to Cuba, where she is now living under the protection of the Castro brothers. She killed a New Jersey State Trooper and the FBI is offering $1 million for information leading to her apprehension... -World Tribune-

How deeply disturbing it is that so many of these dangerous anti-American individuals and organizations are somehow associated with Barack Obama and/or George Soros... who millions of trendy/niave morons recklessly made the most powerful men in the world in 2008:

North Korean Special Forces Spotted Across DMZ Sporting New Camo Gear

DMZ infiltration units...?

Backwards and broke, Pyongyang long-ago abandoned any idea of winning a conventional war with the South and their American allies... that is, ever since they saw US forces cut Saddam's armor into tinsel with shock-n-awe back in 2003.

So to remain a credible threat, the Norks rely on a three-pronged strategy of heavy artillery at the DMZ to pound Seoul into smithereens along with missiles that can menace the rest of the ROK... this while building the world's largest special forces, fiercely-loyal and highly-trained in asymmetrical warfare and infiltration strategies including Islamic-terrorist-inspired car bombs, roadside explosives, etc.

The ambitious plans of the DPRK's Special Operations Force include myriad psy-ops, infiltration tunnels under the DMZ, up to 7000 commandos landing aboard midget subs and hovercraft on both southern coasts, others bypassing the DMZ in radar-evading low-tech wood-packed biplanes, troops simply walking over the border in South Korean uniforms, even Nork agents flying-in dressed as businessmen aboard Chinese commercial flights... all to wreak havoc and terror behind the lines of US and SK troops as they create a second front in the event of full-scale conflict [think "suitcase nuke" and you'll get an idea of the potential of the threat posed].

The DPRK has stationed 50,000 of these troublesome forces right at the DMZ, a number equal to all US special forces combined. Total North Korean special forces are now estimated at 200,000+...over double what they had just three years ago.

Unsettlingly it is then that today SK border surveillance is finding North Korean special forces troops in new camouflage gear apparently preparing for DMZ intrusion drills. Coming on top of recent escalations in the 60-year-old Korean War that has never officially ended, this offers reason for concern... although Seoul won't be standing idly by while Dear Leader plans their demise.

The vile Stalinist regime in North Korea has always held an affection for special forces/asymmetrical warfare strategies, given that "Great Leader" Kim Il Sung fought as a guerrilla vs the Imperial Japanese in occupied WWII Korea and DPRK propaganda is steeped in the narrative.

The most famous incident involving such elite Korean People's Army troops would be the 1968 infiltration that had 31 North Korean commandos of the KPA's secret special forces Unit 124 on an assassination mission- one only halted mere meters from the South Korean President's "Blue House" residence near Seoul. Most of the Norks were killed in the ensuing gun battle with SK security personnel, but the group's leader was actually captured alive.

And one of them did escape alive and return to North Korea, highly decorated and rewarded in spite of the mission's failure: Park Jae-gyong is today an aide to Kim Jong-il and vice minister of the North Korean People's Armed Forces...

Gipper's Greatest Hits: Reagan Bombs Libya, April 14th, 1986

"...for us to ignore -by inaction- the slaughter of American citizens and American soldiers ... is simply
not in the American tradition.

When our citizens are abused or attacked -anywhere in the world- on the direct orders of a hostile regime, we will respond so long as I am in this Oval Office.

Self-defense is not only our right... it is our duty."
