TGIF Rock-n-Roll Oldies: Bread - 1972

Bread was a rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA. They enjoyed 13 hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1970 and 1977, in the process pioneering a new genre later to become known as 'soft rock'. Bread consisted of David Gates , Jimmy Griffin, Robb Royer, Mike Botts, then Larry Knechtel (replacing Royer in 1971).

Before forming Bread, Gates had worked with Royer's previous band, The Pleasure Fair, producing and arranging the band's 1967 album, The Pleasure Fair. Royer then introduced Gates to his songwriting partner, Griffin, and the trio joined together in 1968 and signed with Elektra Records, choosing the name Bread in 1969.

Bread's first single, "Dismal Day" in the Summer of 1969 flopped, but the second album On the Waters established them as a major act in 1970 with the #1 hit "Make It With You".

For their next single, they released a re-recorded version of "It Don't Matter To Me", a Gates song from their first album. This single was a hit as well, reaching #10.

The band began touring and recording the 1971 album titled Manna (#21), which included the Top 5 hit single, "If". In January 1972 Bread released Baby I'm-a Want You, their most successful album, peaking at #3 on the Billboard 200. The title song was established as a hit in late 1971 before the album was even released. Follow-up singles "Everything I Own" and "Diary" also went Top 20.

The next album, Guitar Man, was released ten months later and went to #18. The album produced three Top 20 singles, "The Guitar Man" (#11), "Sweet Surrender" (#15), and "Aubrey" (#15), with the first two going to #1 on Billboard's adult contemporary chart.

Despite the band's success, tensions existed between Gates and Griffin. By 1973, fatigue from constant recording and touring had set in and personal relationships began to show strain. There was also some dissatisfaction with the songs planned for a sixth album. Bread decided to go their own ways with solo projects, but to limited success.

The Best of Bread compilation album from 1973 became a standard in everybody's collection, a huge commercial success that peaked at #2 and remained on the chart for over two years. A follow-up, The Best Of Bread, Volume Two, was released in 1974 and went to #32.

The reunion of the group in 1976 came in the form of the LP Lost Without Your Love, released in January 1977. The title track, again written and sung by Gates, was the band's last Top 10 hit...

DIABLO Turncoat Dede Scozzafava Paid Back Promptly by Democrats... with a Job!

After dropping out of a 3-way congressional race to endorse the Democrat over NY Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in NY-23 back in 2009, Dede Scozzafava has gotten her payback- a cush appointment from Democratic NY Governor Andrew Cuomo.

For many of us, the way the RNC was comprehensively out-witted and out-maneuvered by the unprincipled and ruthless Democrats came as a bit of a shock... and an early indicator that Michael Steele was really not up to the job in the face of a Chicago-Machine-style full court press in this country.

Dede Scozzafava -after taking over a million dollars in GOP campaign cash- appeared to have made a deal with somebody from the dark side, and once Hoffman's TEA-party-propelled surge pushed her into 3rd place she not only dropped out to back Pelosi's handpicked favorite Bill Owens over Hoffman (a mere two days before the vote), but even went so far as to make 11th-hour robo-calls on behalf of the Dem. With the Democratic machine finding a job for her yesterday, it all comes full-circle for anyone paying attention.

Scozzafava also humiliated Newt Gingrich, heavily damaging his political stock in the age of the TEA party. Likely on RNCC orders, Gingrich argued fervently for the campaign of the ACORN-endorsed, pro-abortion, pro-stimulus, and pro-CARD CHECK Scozzafava while denigrating Hoffman... thereby setting a pattern of similar GOP missteps in backing disloyal scumbag RINOs in Florida and elsewhere.

And Scozzafava did all this while still calling herself a Republican, as she continues to do... although perhaps not for long. Country star John Rich had another name for her: Dede Schizophrenic

Blogger Stacy McCain was on-the-ground covering the whole debacle in NY-23 back in 2009... and now offers this succinct conclusion:
Former North Country Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava — who became a household name across America during a tough 2009 congressional race — was appointed today by Gov. Andrew Cuomo as deputy secretary for local government at the state Department of State.

Scozzafava, a Republican, dropped out of the 23rd Congressional District race three days before the 2009 election and infuriated some Republicans by throwing her support to Democratic candidate Bill Owens – not Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. . . .

In late December, Scozzafava told The (Syracuse) Post-Standard she was still a Republican.

“I’m still a Republican. I felt an obligation to the people that elected me to the state Assembly to stay in the party that I’ve been enrolled in for my entire life, at least throughout the end of my term in office. We’ll just see from there,” she said.
What Dede Scozzafava did can never be forgiven, nor should it ever be forgotten. Let her name be known to history as an epithet, a synonym for betrayal: Judas. Benedict Arnold. Quisling. Scozzafava.

Amen to that-

Chinese J-20 Stealth Fighter Testing (photos)

An unofficial Chinese site has pictures of a Chinese stealth fighter said to be as invisible to radar and/or infrared sensors as an American F-22 Raptor...

...there are also opinions that it is just a dummy.

But other experts say that the pictures were in the neighborhood development center in western China taken in stages, which they consider one of the last steps before the first flight of the machine....

So far the only fully operational "invisible" fighter in the world belongs to the U.S. Air Force, and the machine's the F-22. Daily also noted that the images leaked just days before the planned visit of U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in Beijing...

The Chinese government did not publish the photos-. Deputy Commander of the Chinese Air Force General, Che Wei-Zung, but said tests "invisible" airplane has before. He said that the machine will be deployed in eight to ten years. Until now, there was no evidence that the aircraft actually exists...

Chinese prototype according to the Washington expert on the Chinese military, Richard Fisher looks "superior to an American F-35", which the U.S. decided to give priority to the F-22, which is larger and more expensive. J-20 aircraft as the F-22, two engines and is roughly the same size. F-35 has only one engine. F-35, Americans should have out around 2014.

... interested in all this is Japan, who's considering buying F-35s and India, which last month the Russians agreed to the joint development of "invisible" airplane.

However, the Russians already have such a machine. Sukhoi T-50, which Russian engineers have developed since the 90s, made its first flight a year ago. The operation is to be the fifth-generation Sukhoi deployed within four years, will replace the MiG-29 and dry Su-27. Russian Air Force is currently preparing a second prototype test flights...

Another Dem Rising Star Implodes: Michigan's Gov. Jennifer Granholm

Touted as an Ivy-League-educated 'genius',
the results simply aren't there... sound familiar?

A guest-post by Hannah McKale:

The After Effects of Jennifer Granholm's
Failed Governance

In her 2006 State of the State address, Jennifer Granholm declared, “You are going to be blown away!” in regards to the hopeful future Michigan had. She claimed her attempts to attract jobs using foreign investments would both diversify the job climate as well as allow the economy of Michigan to move away from the auto-making industry. She must really regret making those statements, despite being oddly keen on the events of years to come.

Now it is 2011. Governor Jennifer Granholm is soon to be moving into the darker pages of Michigan's history as she prepares to leave office, but unfortunately many of her decisions made while in office will have effects on this beleaguered state well into the future.

Arriving at the end of her term, we can now compare her predecessor’s unemployment average versus the unemployment rate today. Despite what you have thought of former Governor Engler's approach at politics, his 4.8% unemployment rating is less than half of the current 13.1%. It's difficult to believe Granholm's continuous claims that she saved the automobile industry, when nearly half of the auto industry is unemployed, and a third of Michigan's industrial workers are unemployed as well.

To respond to this unemployment problem which Michigan has been battling with for nearly the past decade, Granholm has proposed and initiated several cuts in government spending, but in all of the areas which will only serve to hurt Michigan's already failing economy. Cutting nearly a fifty million dollars from the transportation budget has left many Michigan roads in perilous condition. Roads in Michigan are infamous for their enormous potholes thanks to brutal winters, and funding for plowing the roads has been cut from Michigan's budget as well.

It seems as if Jennifer Granholm has spent the second half of her time as governor fighting battles other than the economic troubles this state is experiencing. Fights such as bringing the internet to the entirety of Michigan. Approximately five percent of the state is unable to receive broadband internet because the providers have declared it would not be profitable to extend their services into these regions. Note, most of these regions are incredibly rural, with few inhabitants. The internet is a grand tool, but should over one hundred million dollars of funding be poured into a project such as this when there are dozens of much more important issues at hand? Is the availability of high-speed internet more important than the job security of over a tenth of the state? The plan to lay down over 2,000 miles of fiber optic cable will be completed by Merit Network, and several other private firms sometime in 2011.

Many pundits made a show of Jennifer Granholm when she first took office, and even just two years ago, Chris Matthews went so far as to call her a genius. While she must have been an intelligent speaker in order to successfully make her way into office, it is a far flung statement to even insinuate Granholm's term as governor has been anything approaching the levels of 'genius'. Anyone with a degree from one of the top online schools for public administration could do an equal job in office, and Granholm is an Ivy Leaguer.

It is certainly not genius to tax and spend just as the majority of the United States government has done, but Jennifer Granholm has not shown any problem with appealing for government aid, while still ignoring the true problems this state is facing. A teetering unemployment level, coupled with little hope of any local economic recovery to come has left many with a bitter taste in their mouths when the name Jennifer Granholm comes to mind. The fall out of this particular administration may be felt for several years to come.

Hannah McKale recently received her Masters in Political Science, and is currently seeking a Ph.d program. McKale focuses much of her writing on the international political economy. When she is not working she is often traveling the world, or advocating for online universities.

ObamaCare MUST BE DESTROYED

Putting the 'progressive' revolution out of it's misery...

It is encouraging indeed to see GOP pledges to institute a pushback of ObamaCare promptly acted-upon, and with some vigor: Eric Cantor unveiled the plan late yesterday evening to pry it's tentacles off our necks... an aggressive full-repeal bill.

The Cantor ObamaCare repeal bill can be viewed online or download PdF file -here-

Unlikely a couple months back, Rep Fred Upton (R-Mi) says the number of those in favor of repeal in the House now approaches the 2/3 super-majority required to override an Obama veto. The ObamaCare repeal vote has been scheduled for January 12th, just a week from tomorrow. According to Rasmussen poll, 60% of American voters favor repeal.

Alas, the House ObamaCare repeal bill won't be enough with the Senate still in the hands of the Democrats, unless there's quite a shift in sentiment over there. Harry Reid even issued a warning to John Boehner not to try it... that ought to play well in 2012, lol. BUT, you'd think if Dingy had he votes he'd have no reason to be making threats. Instead we get trash talk-  a sign of weakness?

John Hayward in Human Events:
Senate Democrats saw the Republicans pouring on canvas and loading their guns, so they decided to fire a warning shot across their bow. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and four members of his caucus produced a letter warning House Speaker John Boehner they would block any effort to repeal the legislation.

This is not unexpected, but if Reid manages to keep ObamaCare’s tentacles wrapped around America’s throat until 2012, copies of that letter will start turning up in Republican campaign ads. Voters compelled to choose between keeping ObamaCare or purging Democrats from the Senate might not find that a difficult choice.

Reid’s letter also hilariously warns about the “unintended consequences” of repealing the health care bill, which is a gigantic mass of unintended consequences that devours jobs and decent health care plans as it slobbers across the land...

So what else can we do until Obama is finally frog-marched out of the Oval Office?

Patriots must remain vigilant, focussed, and energized in the spirit of the TEA party as we fight ObamaCare on all fronts... massive rejection by voters and impassioned public rallies isn't enough to stop them, and the Obama administration has made it abundantly clear that they'll be ramming still more of it down our throats any which way they can. Bad-faith, anti-democratic radicals such as we face see widespread public complacency over time as an ally... we should deny them that.

And what better example of Chairman Zero's boundless contempt for the will of the American people than the ObamaCare "death panels" (leading to euthanasia programs) that Gov Palin was ridiculed for even suspecting in 2009 -and which the Obama-Pelosi-Reid couldn't obtain via legitimate legislation due to the to the political backlash. Shamefully, these panels are already a legal reality... by executive fiat:

American Spectator:
...the 2009 charge leveled by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and the then-House Minority Leader Boehner that Obama fully intended to set up what Palin termed government "death panels" -- panels that Boehner said would set the government on the road to euthanasia -- is no longer a charge. It's reality. By executive fiat -- in this case a new Medicare rule issued by Obama Medicare chief Dr. Donald Berwick.

Palin, who made the charge on her Facebook page on August 7, 2009 during the health care debates, came under a fusillade of scornful and demeaning political attacks from political opponents after pointedly saying this about the prospect of death panels:

"And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."

Her famous sharp criticism was enough for the plan to be quickly dropped by Congress. Now, with Americans absorbed in a festive holiday and ignoring Washington momentarily, the Obama administration has found a way to achieve its death panel goal anyway...

The other major iron-in-the-fire would be the states' court challenges to the individual mandate and other elements of the 2700-page monstrocity... but despite an early victory in VA, It's hardly a slam-dunk when it gets to the US Supreme Court- all we can do is hope and pray there.

The Obama Administration continues shred the democratic process in order to implement an irreversible lurch to the left in this country by hook-or-by-crook, maximizing entitlement dependencies while pegging the needle on the national debt to force taxation upon their perceived 'class-enemies'.  They will destroy this country over the next two years even without a congressional majority... that is, unless we fight like tigers to stop them. If ObamaCare can't be fully repealed this year, the GOP -in concert with like-minded state-level leadership- must proceed with de-funding, lawsuits, whatever it takes to inflict death-by-a-thousand-cuts.

And John Boehner and Eric Cantor need to keep the heat on the statists BIG time... the majority of Americans are on our side, let Democrats explain to voters in 2012 why they ignored the will of the people not once, but twice on this unloved Left-wing power and tax grab called ObamaCare.

Race-Baiting Angst Merchants of the Left Like to Keep 'em on the Plantation

How about destroying the false racial narrative
and creating true equality in this country...

I found this post from Conservative Outpost 2.0 illuminating... I guess I'm not the only one appalled by the Democrats' incessant racial manipulation while just giving lip service to what should be the real goal: a truly color-blind society:

I can’t tell you how many times that I’ve read blogs, from both ends of the spectrum, that talk about African-Americans as if they are a monolithic voting bloc that will ALWAYS vote Democrat. We’ve all seen the videos of African Americans thinking that Obama will pay their mortgages, or that they are going to get “Obama Money,” from his “stash.” Since these are well-publicized cases, they are influencing our perceptions about an entire group of people. So, the question is, is that all true?

And, if is it really that way, will it change? You see, I question both of those assumptions. While the voting issue is true, what is the basis for it? History tells us that that after the civil war, most African-Americans were Republicans, and the first African American Congressmen from the south belonged to the GOP.

We also know that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican. It is also true that Democrats were responsible for the Jim Crow laws, and that the southern Democrats resisted the civil rights era legislation vehemently. So, that leaves us with something that bears examining; why did African Americans switch to voting over 90% Democrat in every election?

To answer this, I think we again need to go back into history, and see what happened in the 60’s. Let’s start with some quotes attributed to LBJ... continue at Conservative Outpost 2.0
If you'd like an additional serving of reality, here's a comprehensive record of racial duplicity from the serial opportunists of the American Left...
